I have watched the spread of this species through England and Wales throughout the last 20 or so years, from my first sighting, down on the River Lerryn in Cornwall until they have become seemingly ubiquitous. The bird above was at Shapwick Heath in Somerset, and the sequence of pictures below were taken at Stodmarsh NNR in Kent, in October 2008, and are cropped.

I have presumed that this was courtship behaviour, despite the fact that it was in early October. the two birds flew in together, and left together, and were seen again later in the day, together.
