This obliging bird was on Goldcliff Pools at Gwent Levels in spring 2009, and was a good tick for me, as up to this point I had always managed to miss seeing them. Picture 03 with the avocet gives a sense of scale to this sizeable bird.
The birds below were on the River Lynher in Cornwall, seen from the Tamar Bird Cruise boat, on the 30th December 2009, a memorable trip, lasting over 3 hours, with many species of bird seen, including avocet, but not recommended for those wanting to take close up pictures.
