Turnstone

These tiny little coastal waders are to a degree fairly fearless, allowing people to approach quite closely before they spook and fly off, often returning to an adjacent piece of ground, at the waters edge. These are at New Passage just outside Bristol, and there were in the region of 50 birds in this flock.

Pictures 2 and 3 above were taken at Newlyn Harbour in April 2009, and picture 4 is on Marazion beach in September, where there were a number of turnstones in with the mixed flock of dunlin and ringed plover.
