Wall

The Wall is a butterfly currently in decline. Over the past few years populations in many areas have collapsed, and it is now most frequently encountered on coastal sites, and it has disappeared from many former inland locations.

However 2010 appears to have been a very good year for this species in Cornwall, and I am absolutely delighted to find a strong colony in my new garden, just outside Fowey, with up to 6 at a time seen flitting around the walls and gravel areas this August, where the new picture above was taken. I have also observed them nectaring on buddleia, not a behaviour I have ever witnessed before.
