A feral population of wild boar has roamed the Forest of Dean for a number of years, and remain hard to locate, and photograph. However, I first spotted this group on the roadside in early October 2007, and with friends and colleagues have spent the time since then studying them. They tend to show early morning or late afternoon, when the light is poor, and these shots were taken at slow shutter speeds, and high ISO levels. I live in hope of better, so watch this space.
The shots below are record shots taken from the New Fancy Lookout in the Forest, of a sow with her new piglets, who had just been joined by a boar, in February 2008. There are a total of 7 piglets, and these pics were taken from a considerable distance, and are cropped.
Anyone thinking of visiting to see these animals should only view from the lookout, so as not to disturb the family group, or put themselves at risk.
